Getting started

A straightforward way to start a food diary

Set up a simple food diary: find the right food, check its portion, log meals and reuse the combinations you eat regularly.

Start with one meal you know

Choose a meal with ingredients or labels you can check. Find each food in the app, confirm the preparation and enter the amount you ate. You do not need to build an entire recipe library before making your first entry.

Make each entry easy to recognise

Match the brand and variety for packaged products. For everyday produce, read the raw or cooked description and the edible portion. Restaurant entries need the correct item and serving, including any additions you order.

  1. Search by food name or scan a packaged product.
  2. Check the nutrition basis and portion size.
  3. Add it to the right meal and date.
  4. Review the entry before reusing it.

Save the meals you repeat

Save familiar combinations as meals so you can reuse them. When an ingredient or portion changes, update the meal instead of assuming the old quantities still fit.

The pantry keeps foods you use at home close to hand. Your diary and history help you revisit what you logged without having to search from scratch.

Use the numbers as a record

A diary reflects the entries and quantities you give it. Missing ingredients, different preparations and old labels can all change the totals. Nutrition Buddy is a tracking tool; it does not diagnose conditions or prescribe a diet.

If you need a personal eating plan for a medical condition, speak with a qualified professional who can interpret your needs beyond a food log.
