Data and editorial notes

Know where the numbers come from

How Nutrition Buddy uses CoFID food data, calculates portions, handles missing nutrients and separates source verification from health advice.

The public food collection

This collection contains 40 selected raw fruit and vegetable records from the 2021 Composition of Foods Integrated Dataset (CoFID), published by Public Health England. They are drawn from the same source import used by Nutrition Buddy’s catalogue.

Each page records its CoFID food code, source description and snapshot date. The snapshot date is when the reference was prepared for this website; it is not the date the food was analysed. Public pages are versioned snapshots and may differ from later edits in the signed-in catalogue.

Portions and missing values

Nutrients describe 100g of the edible portion specified by the source record. The calculator multiplies the source value by your weight in grams and divides by 100. Displayed values are rounded; calculations use the unrounded source numbers.

The import converts sodium from milligrams to grams and derives salt as sodium multiplied by 2.5. Source trace values are represented as zero in this import; unavailable values remain missing. A displayed zero may therefore represent a trace amount.

What “verified” means in the app

Verification is a catalogue status, not a medical endorsement. CoFID imports are marked verified against their source. Other shared records can be reviewed by administrators. A verified record can still need an update if a product or source changes.

Packaged products may come from Open Food Facts and catalogue contributions; menu entries can have their own sources. These are separate from this public CoFID collection. Always compare a packaged product with its current label.

Editorial scope and corrections

Nutrition Buddy publishes these guides to explain food measurements and its own features. They have not been presented as clinician-reviewed medical advice. External factual references are linked where used.

Check the food code, preparation, units and source version when investigating a difference. Shared catalogue corrections require a verified email. Public snapshot changes are reviewed and published with a new website build.
